It is a sex crimes case that is both sad and uncommon. A Detroit woman has pleaded guilty to having sex with her 14-year-old biological son and now faces a potential prison term of 30 years.

Aimee L. Sword, 36, gave her son up for adoption when he was a baby. She later found him through the Internet and received permission from his adoptive parents to spend time with him.

It was far from the type of bonding relationship the parents envisioned. Sword maintains she had sex with her son one time; authorities state otherwise, saying there were several sexual episodes in locations that include a hotel and Sword's home.

The son's parents state that they had no idea what was happening and that he never shared any information with them. He did, though, open up to a counselor eventually.

Sword is married and the mother of several children. At her sentencing hearing in Oakland County Circuit Court on July 12, she apologized for her conduct. Her attorney stated that, "Aimee's searching for a reason why this happened. She can't understand it. She's going to get some counseling."

 She will have ample time for that. She faces a minimum sentence of nine years.

 Her biological son is now 16.
